WEDNESDAY

It was two days before the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread. The chief priests and the scribes were looking for a cunning way to arrest Jesus and kill him. “Not during the festival,” they said, “so that there won’t be a riot among the people.”

…they gave a dinner for him there; Martha was serving them, and Lazarus [the one Jesus had raised from the dead] was one of those reclining at the table with him. Then Mary took a pound of perfume, pure and expensive nard, anointed Jesus’s feet, and wiped his feet with her hair. So the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
Then one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot (who was about to betray him), said, “Why wasn’t this perfume sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” He didn’t say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief. He was in charge of the money-bag and would steal part of what was put in it.
Jesus answered, “Leave her alone; she has kept it for the day of my burial. For you always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me.”

Then [Judas Iscariot] went to the chief priests and said, “What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?” So they weighed out thirty pieces of silver for him. And from that time he started looking for a good opportunity to betray him.

1) Ask Jesus to give us a passionate heart for Him.

Jesus, give us hearts like Mary of Bethany, who was willing to extravagantly pour her costly perfume on Your feet in worship. You were worth everything to her, Jesus. May that be true for us. Take away our calloused heart and give us a heart that is tender and sensitive to You. It is our great desire to be fully devoted, passionate worshipers and followers of You.
